Big Boy Running

I’m still going strong with my trainer and my weight is on the decline again, so I guess life is pretty good. I’m continuing with run/walk rotations on the treadmill here and there, but I haven’t actually gone running in a couple of weeks - not giving up on it, just focusing on weight training for the time being. I plan on kicking it back up soon though as I miss the rush.

In other news, I went to the doctor today for a checkup on my blood pressure and she was happy with the results so I don’t go back for four months. She’s planning on doing a full physical at that time, so I can’t wait. Nothing like being molested by a grandmotherly woman to get the blood pressure under control!

Another awesome workout with my trainer is in the books. I started off with some walk/run intervals on the treadmill again and then we moved on to another lower body workout. He started me on drop sets, which I’ve never done before. They definitely get the burn going and shock the system.

I haven’t mentioned weight in a while and that’s mostly because I’m slightly up from my original 40 pound loss, which is discouraging for me. I’m disappointed that I let myself start climbing again unchecked. That’s something that I just have to work on as I move forward. The important thing, I hope, is that my motivation to workout and keep running is back full force and I’m getting healthier overall.

Thanks for reading and have a great night.

Tonight’s training session began with about 12 minutes of walk/run intervals on the treadmill to get the blood flowing and then we did lower body isolation. I never did many leg workouts even when I was lifting weights regularly several years ago, so this was a challenge.

I AM proud to say that I did squats tonight and all of my stuff is still where it’s supposed to be!

I’m learning a lot from my trainer and feeling better every day, so this was certainly money well spent.

Another session with my personal trainer is complete. We moved on from total body workouts to isolation stuff, focusing on upper body tonight.

On a side note, I think Amy is paying him to kill me off. OR, he just doesn’t like cops. Either way, he subscribes to the “no pain no gain” philosophy and I’m feeling it.

It’s a good kind of hurt!

I planned on coming home and taking the night off from exercise, but I found myself WANTING to go for a run. I covered 1.5 at a very slow pace, but it felt really good!

I had another session with my trainer tonight. He had me do another total body workout, but we used completely different equipment than last time and every exercise was 3 sets of 15 to 20 reps. It wasn’t nearly as painful as last time.

Forced myself into the gym today for my scheduled workout and it seems to have helped to get the soreness out a little more. It’s amazing how resilient the human body is - even after it’s been put through years of abuse!

Now it’s time to enjoy the rest of this Sunday with the family. I wish this weather would stick around - 65 and sunny in January can’t be beat!

Personal Trainer

Today was my first session with my trainer. I could have gone downtown and paid a crackhead to kick me in the stones and I would probably feel about the same right now. Everything hurts and I’m anticipating that I will be hating life in the morning.

We did a full body torture session tonight beginning with squats and finishing off with tricep extensions. He explained that I would be doing this routine for a few days to “get the soreness out” and then we are moving on to isolating muscle groups. Sadistic.
So the plan is to do three to four days a week in the gym (2 with the trainer) with a couple of days of running in between to really get a good burn. This is going to be interesting.

I made it to the gym again tonight for some cardio and also wound up signing up with a personal trainer for two nights a week. Now I’m going to be doing more intensive workouts with running mixed in between here and there. My first workout with him is Thursday night, so I’m really looking forward to that. I need the accountability and someone to stoke the fire that has been smoldering under me the last few weeks.

Made it to the gym today and hit the elliptical machine for 45 minutes and burned a little over 500 calories. Spent the rest of the day chasing the little man around, burning about 10,000 more calories. Slowly, but surely I am getting back on track and I’m looking forward to having full motivation once again.

This is going to be a tough week for exercise. I have to be in Atlanta the next 3 days to attend the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Winter Training Conference, so between getting up early for a commute and fighting the hoards out of the city in the afternoons, I am going to be struggling to find the will power to not come home and crash. BUT, I am certainly going to give it the old college try (college was way easier than weight loss by the way).

I have felt much better, or lighter, this weekend because I was able to get a long running conflict resolved at work on Friday afternoon. I think that whole scenario probably had a little to do with my BP issues as well! Glad to have that behind me so that I can move on and focus on other things.

Here’s to a great week!
